For Immediate Release:
A man attending court on an unrelated matter was arrested Wednesday on an outstanding warrant and then charged with possession of marijuana after deputies discovered drugs on him during a pat down search.
Deputy Mike Lawler was working inside a courtroom when a prosecutor from the Solicitor’s Office told him a man named Khainan Murdock, 27, of Duluth was scheduled to come to court and there was an active warrant for him out of Cobb County for failure to appear in court there.
Deputy Lawler spotted Mr. Murdock when he came into the courtroom and detained him until he could confirm the warrant out of Cobb County. During a pat down search, the deputy discovered a small bag of marijuana in his pants pocket.
He was charged with possession of marijuana less than an ounce and was transported to the Gwinnett County Jail.
Mr. Murdock was in court Wednesday for an arraignment hearing on charges of hit and run, driving without a valid license, and giving police a false name or information.
