For Immediate Release:
One dead cat and three other animals that were starving to death were discovered by Gwinnett County Sheriff’s deputies who were serving an eviction at a Norcross apartment complex Tuesday night.
Deputies entered the apartment at 603 Ashley Lakes Drive and found a gruesome sight. The apartment was covered in animal feces, urine and filth. Inside they discovered two Bullmastiffs and one cat in various stages of starvation. One other cat had died and it appeared to have been partially eaten in an apparent effort by the remaining animals to survive.
The living conditions inside the apartment were so severe and the animals were in such bad condition that deputies could count every single bone in one of the dog’s bodies. All of the animals were living in filth and feces covered rooms and were infested with fleas.
The resident was not at the apartment Tuesday, but deputies were told that she had been stopping by daily to pick up her mail. Gwinnett Deputies obtained warrants for Suzy Lugo. She is being charged with one felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals and three misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals.
The three animals were removed from the apartment and are in the custody of Gwinnett Animal Control.
