 For immediate release:

Gwinnett Sheriff’s deputies serving another routine eviction Friday arrested the homeowner after discovering more than three pounds of marijuana inside the residence.

Veldon Bates, 51, was arrested during the eviction at 4200 Waters Way in Snellville after the drugs were found hidden in a closet. The marijuana had an estimated street value of $35,000.

Mr. Bates is being held at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond for felony possession of marijuana. He was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime after deputies discovered a .380 handgun and a shotgun inside the home.

This is the third incident since last week where deputies serving an eviction found marijuana inside a residence.

Jonda Lynn Bernice Carethers, 30, was charged with manufacturing marijuana after deputies discovered 20 marijuana plants growing in a small room off the first floor of her townhome located at 6351 Views Trace in Norcross earlier this week.

Last week, a Snellville man was arrested after deputies carrying out an eviction discovered six marijuana plants growing inside the back of a TV. He was arrested and charged with manufacturing marijuana.
